The armillary sphere is probably the most visually appealing of all the sundial types. All my armillaries are made to the specific latitude of the place in which it is to be installed. They can be made for both the southern and northern hemisphere. For a more detailed explanation of all aspects of sundialing I cannot recommend more highly the excellent site by François Blateyron;
By combining the latest in computer aided design with time honoured craftsmanship I can offer your choice of wording (within technical limits) and either arabic or roman numerals on the time band at no additional cost. Lettering is cut by intaglio etching giving deep definition to last for centuries!
Time is read from a shadow cast by the gnomon, a rod passing through the centre of the sphere parallel to the polar axis, about which the earth rotates. Spheres can be mounted on a base ring or at extra cost a ships bell. All dials are supplied with detailed installation and setting up instructions and for security come supplied with stainless steel security fastenings. Once installed these are extremely difficult to remove; I would recommend that these dials are insured against theft.
